What goes in our written quote
Every written quote starts with the specific work: which circuits are affected, what we are installing or repairing, and what is already there that the new work has to tie into. We spell out what is included and what is not, so both sides know where the job starts and stops.
For an EV charger, that means a dedicated 240-volt circuit, typically 40 to 50 amps. The quote says which amperage we are pulling and whether the panel has room for the added load. If the panel or service needs work first, that goes in as its own line instead of turning up halfway through the job.
Pocatello's Building Department issues permits for construction that includes electrical installation, so we check the permit requirement before work begins. If the job needs one, it appears in the quote as a separate line.
What we charge and what moves the number
Diagnostic and troubleshooting work runs $100 to $350. A breaker that trips for no obvious reason or an outlet that went dead is usually at the low end if the cause turns up quickly. A fault that takes real tracing through several circuits lands higher.
Installing a ceiling fan or light fixture runs $150 to $350. The range depends on ceiling height and on whether a box suitable for the fixture is already in place.
Call us and describe the job, and we will talk through where it likely falls in these ranges. The final figure is set after we look at the work in person, since the panel, the existing wiring and the route for a new circuit decide where in the range it lands.

GFCI and AFCI protection
The price depends on what is in the panel. Sometimes the protection can go in at the breaker. Other times the circuit has to be reworked first. We look at the panel and the circuit before we put a figure on it.
Cold winters and storm season
Pocatello is climate zone 6B, with long, hard winters, and exterior receptacles and anything mounted on an outside wall take that weather directly. A recent severe-storm warning near Portneuf Gap put Pocatello in the path of large hail and damaging wind. After a storm like that, outdoor electrical equipment is worth having looked at, even if everything still seems to work. When we scope exterior work, we check the condition of what is already installed, not just whether it powers on.
